National search plus a local backup
eBay can sell the item to someone who searched the exact model. Facebook Marketplace can sell it tonight to someone three kilometres away. The combination is strongest when you are willing to ship or meet, and when the item is valuable enough to justify two live ads.
What actually differs
| Area | eBay | Facebook Marketplace |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | Search + item specifics | Feed, location, sometimes groups |
| Deal type | Shipped, paid in platform | Usually pickup; shipping is optional |
| Must-review | Condition, specifics, shipping, returns | Category, pickup, a shorter description |
| Fees | eBay selling / payment fees | Typical Canadian local sale has no selling fee |
| Price | Often higher to cover fees + postage | Often lower “come get it” number |

A practical workflow
- Start from the more complete listing (usually eBay) or from a Facebook import if that ad is already good.
- On eBay, do not skip condition and specifics — that is what search uses.
- On Facebook, drop the auction voice, add pickup, and decide whether groups are worth the extra messages.
- Save both live links so a sale on one can be cleaned up on the other.
Price, shipping, groups
Copying the eBay price onto Marketplace makes the local ad look expensive. Copying the Marketplace price onto eBay can leave you underwater after fees. Set two prices on purpose.
Facebook groups are optional reach, not a second marketplace. If you use them, keep the same facts and the same sold discipline.
After the sale
An eBay paid order and a Marketplace “I’ll be there in 10” can happen the same hour. Mark sold and remove the other copy immediately. SyncListing never ends the eBay listing or deletes the Facebook ad for you.
When to skip
Skip eBay for bulky, low-value items. Skip Marketplace if you will not do local meetups. Kijiji is the closer sibling to Marketplace if you want a second local site rather than a shipped one.
Common questions
Can I use the same title on both?
Use the eBay title for search (brand, model, key spec). Shorten and humanize the Facebook title so it looks like a local ad, not an auction listing.
Do I need to offer shipping on Facebook too?
Only if you want to. Many Canadian Marketplace sales are pickup. eBay is where shipping and returns have to be correct.
What about Facebook groups?
Optional. SyncListing can remember default “List in more places” checkboxes after you set them. You still click Publish on Facebook.
