Two local channels, not the same crowd
Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji are the default pair for a lot of Canadian sellers because both reach people who will drive over. The audiences still do not fully overlap. Some buyers live in Marketplace; others refuse to use Facebook and browse Kijiji instead.
For a sofa, bike, kids’ clothes or a phone, posting both is often worth the extra two minutes. For a $15 cable, one site is enough.

Location is the easy mistake
Kijiji will happily keep the city from the last thing you posted. If this listing is in a different neighbourhood, the ad will look wrong and the wrong people will message you.
SyncListing prefers the pickup city/area on that listing (the same idea Facebook Marketplace and Karrot already followed). You still confirm the field on Kijiji before you publish.
A practical workflow
- Build or import one master listing with photos, price, condition and pickup area.
- Post Marketplace first if that is where you already talk to buyers.
- Open Kijiji, let SyncListing fill the form, then check category and city.
- Save both live links. When one sells, remove the other the same day.
After the sale
Local buyers message fast. A sold-still-live ad on the other site is how you get angry “is this available?” threads. Use Mark sold and the De-list checklist; you click remove on each site.
When to skip
Skip Kijiji if you never get replies there in your city. Skip Marketplace if you will not use Facebook. Do not add eBay or Poshmark to this pair unless the item can ship or is fashion-specific.
Common questions
Are both sites free for a normal local sale in Canada?
Ordinary Kijiji Buy & Sell ads and typical Facebook Marketplace local sales do not take a selling commission the way eBay or Poshmark do. Confirm current rules on each site before you rely on that.
Why did Kijiji show the city from my last ad?
Kijiji often remembers the previous location. SyncListing now prefers the pickup city on the listing you are posting. Still glance at the field before you click Post.
Should I add Facebook groups as well?
Only if you already use those groups. Marketplace plus Kijiji already covers a lot of local demand; groups add messages you have to answer.
