The quick answer
For broad local exposure, Facebook Marketplace is hard to ignore. Kijiji remains useful because it reaches people who will not open Facebook. Vehicles, electronics, tools and bulky home goods still do real volume on Kijiji in many cities.
If the item is worth a second ten minutes, list both. If it is a $15 leftover, pick the site where you already get replies.

Side by side
| Question | Facebook Marketplace | Kijiji |
|---|---|---|
| Who is browsing? | People already in the Facebook app | Classifieds shoppers, including no-Facebook households |
| Typical sale | Pickup, Messenger chat | Pickup, email or phone, e-transfer |
| Selling fee (ordinary local ad) | Usually none on a Canadian local sale | Ordinary Buy & Sell ads typically free |
| Easy mistake | Wrong category or forgotten group | City left on last week’s ad |
| Strong categories | Furniture, kids’ items, everyday household | Vehicles, tools, electronics, “too heavy to ship” |
Where Facebook Marketplace tends to shine
Photo-first browsing and a huge logged-in audience. If you already talk to buyers in Messenger, stay there for the first post. Optional “List in more places” groups add reach and also add messages you have to answer.
Where Kijiji still earns its place
Kijiji is still a Canadian classifieds habit. Search and city filters behave like a listings site, not a social feed. When Marketplace is quiet, Kijiji is often the second pool — not a clone of the first.
How to use both without double work
Keep one master listing in SyncListing. Fill Marketplace, then Kijiji. On Kijiji, look at the pickup city before you publish. Save both live links. The day one sells, remove the other yourself — SyncListing will not delete the ad.
Which should you list first?
Start where your seller profile is already trusted. Crosslist the same day. Waiting a week to “see if Facebook works” usually just delays the Kijiji buyer who never saw the first ad.
Common questions
Should I list the same item on more than one marketplace?
Often yes, when the item fits more than one audience and you have a reliable way to remove the other copies after a sale.
Do I need crosslisting software?
Not for a handful of listings. It becomes useful when retyping, photo handling and live-status tracking start consuming meaningful time.
