Open board versus groups
Facebook Marketplace casts a wide local net. VarageSale depends on the groups you belong to: busy suburban or city groups can move kids’ gear and furniture fast; quiet groups waste a listing.
Use both when you already sell in active VarageSale groups and still want Marketplace reach. Do not add VarageSale “because the chip is there.”
What each form needs
| Area | Facebook Marketplace | VarageSale |
|---|---|---|
| Who it reaches | Anyone browsing Marketplace nearby | Members of your VarageSale groups |
| Location | Pickup city on this listing | Group / area you post into — confirm before Post Items |
| Category | Marketplace category | VarageSale category for that group |
| Photos | Clear cover plus details | Same set; confirm they attached |
| Price | Local pickup ask | Usually the same local price |
| Chat | Messenger / Marketplace messages | VarageSale messages — saved replies can insert; you still Send |
| After a sale | Mark sold or delete yourself | Remove the VarageSale listing yourself |

Groups before volume
VarageSale only pays off if the group still has buyers. Check recent sales in the group before you crosslist every garage item. One strong group plus Marketplace beats five dead groups plus Marketplace.
On Marketplace, set the city for this item. On VarageSale, when you start a pending post, SyncListing can help you reach Post Items — you still choose the group and click through yourself.
A practical workflow
- Save the item once: photos, price, category, pickup city.
- Open Facebook Marketplace, confirm category and city, click Post yourself.
- Open VarageSale from the same card, pick the active group, confirm details, click Post yourself.
- When one sells, remove the other copy the same day so neighbours stop messaging.
When to skip VarageSale
Skip it if your groups are quiet, if the item is fashion you will ship on Poshmark or Depop instead, or if you already cover local with Kijiji and Marketplace and do not want a third meetup thread.
Common questions
Does SyncListing post to VarageSale or Facebook for me?
No. It fills each create form. You review the group or location, then click Post on that site.
Is VarageSale worth it if I already use Marketplace?
Only when your VarageSale groups are active. Quiet groups add work without buyers.
Can SyncListing reply to VarageSale buyers?
Where VarageSale buyer chat is supported, a saved reply can be inserted into the message box. You still press Send.
Can I import a VarageSale listing I already have?
Yes. Open My Stuff in Chrome and use bulk import, or open a single ad where import is offered. Then open Marketplace from that draft. You still click Post on Marketplace.
